December to February
Cool dry trade winds, daytime temperatures around 26 to 28 degrees Celsius, and the calmest Atlantic conditions of the year. This is the best window for the cave stop and Playa Caleton swimming. Christmas, New Year and February school weeks see Dominican families on day trips, so book a few days in advance.
March to April
The sweet spot for many travelers. Crowds thin out after Carnaval, prices stabilize and the mangroves are still in dry-season shape with the best bird activity. Easter week is busy with local visitors, otherwise tours run with smaller groups.
May to July
Shoulder season. Mornings are usually clear and the lagoon looks greener after the early rains. Afternoon showers are short and rarely cancel a tour. Atlantic seas are slightly choppier on some days. Prices and crowds drop noticeably in May and June.
August to October
Hurricane season. Most tours operate as normal but a tropical wave passing through can cause sea-side stops to be skipped or whole tours to be moved or cancelled. Free cancellation is essential during these months. Wildlife is at its richest, fewer visitors are on the boat.
November
Dry weather returns and crowds remain low until US and European holiday travelers arrive in mid-December. November is one of the most underrated months to visit the lagoon.

February and March are the best months to visit Gri Gri Lagoon. Dry weather, low humidity, calm Atlantic seas and clear water at Playa Caleton combine with peak migratory bird activity in the mangroves. April and December are also excellent and slightly less crowded than the February school holiday peak.
The lagoon dock and operators technically run year-round but boat tours are sometimes cancelled in August, September and October if a tropical system passes near the North Coast. Most operators offer free cancellation. If you visit in hurricane season, build a flexible day into your trip and check the forecast.
