Laguna Gri Gri (Rio San Juan)
A mangrove lagoon visited by boat. The captain navigates freshwater channels lined with mangroves, stops at the Cueva de las Golondrinas sea cave, and finishes at Playa Caleton beach for swimming. Calm, scenic and family friendly. Read the full Gri Gri Lagoon guide.
Laguna Dudu (Cabrera)
A 32-meter deep freshwater cenote with crystal-clear turquoise water. Cliff jumping from a 10-meter platform, a zipline that drops you in the lagoon, and Taino cave art on the walls. The most adrenaline-heavy of the three. Combined often with Playa Grande beach.
Laguna Azul (Bayahibe area, south coast)
A photogenic sinkhole with bright blue water, near the Bayahibe and Punta Cana resort area. Smaller and quicker than Gri Gri or Laguna Dudu. A typical visit lasts under an hour and is included as part of a wider Bayahibe day trip rather than a destination on its own.
Which one should you pick?
- Pick Gri Gri if you want a relaxed half-day on the water, mangrove scenery and a quiet beach.
- Pick Laguna Dudu if you want adventure, cliff jumps and a longer day with multiple stops.
- Pick Laguna Azul if you are based in Punta Cana or Bayahibe and want a quick photo stop on a wider tour.
